| The
Hansen/Hanson Family Tree
This document is a work in progress. If you have additions,
corrections, or other pertinent information, please send it to
We have
tried to list as much information as is known about each named individual
that is a part of this Hansen/Hanson Tree. Follow Blue underlined
links to identify persons in the various branches of the tree. A little explanation
about the use of Hansen or Hanson for this tree. Our common ancestor
Henning was born Hansen. Several documents prove this.
Sometime after he arrived in Wisconsin the change to Hanson happened.
There are several oral folklore stories but none seem to bear fruit. We do
know the change occurred prior to when Wm Hanson went to Texas. The change
was never legally made so in Wisconsin, at least, the birth
certificates for Steve and Mary's children were spelled Hansen.
Steve and Mary went to their graves with the family name spelled
Hanson. Their tombstone in the Marcellion Cemetery reflects
this. However with Clayton the spelling returned to Hansen and is
spelled that way on his tombstone in the Pardeeville Cemetery. For
the purpose of this tree I have sectioned off the spelling to make it
easier to follow the branches of this tree. The spelling Hansen will
serve for the Steve Hansen branch with its mostly Wisconsin genealogy
(even though you may find some records Hanson) and the William
Hanson branch with its Texas genealogy..
